Know Yourself Psychology

About Me
My loves are centred in people, science, nature, and music.
When I was young, I took the opportunity to study music before embarking on a professional career in performance and writing. I learnt a lot about the world, people, and different ways of thinking and communicating through music. For me, music—especially that which requires improvisation—is high level problem solving through communication. You need to learn to figure out how to express yourself in a given context and adapt to changes. It struck me how the real masters were always instantly recognisable even when playing in vastly different styles, tempos, and intensities. This ability to adapt but remain authentic always resonated with me.
When I experienced an injury as a result of my playing, it was my turn to adapt but remain authentic. It felt completely natural and timely to follow my passion for science and people by studying psychology. Psychology to me, is a beautiful blend of science and art and requires me to be completely present, creative, and open-minded, but at the same time practical, solution-focussed, and grounded. Beyond my graduation as a general psychologist, I have continued my studies with my current focus on research exploring the biological underpinnings of mental health disorders.
Like most, I care about the welfare of all people but I believe my best way to help is by sticking with what I know best—my lived experience as a man. My journey so far has afforded me the opportunity to have conversations with tens of thousands of people in unassuming circumstances as a musician. What struck me most was that the men I found most impressive did not necessarily have qualities in common; rather, they shared a confidence and sense of agency that only comes from truly knowing yourself. It is this understanding that helps me to see the individual and stay aware the crude, inaccurate and lazy stereotypes that can prevent men from seeking help and embracing their unique selves.
These experiences with remarkable, unique men of quality, capability, and confidence inspired me to name my clinic “Know Yourself Psychology.” My wealth of real-life experience, coupled with the comprehensive scientific grounding and knowledge I’ve gained—and continue to develop—gives me confidence in my ability to support men of all ages, backgrounds, and circumstances in their pursuit of mental health, agency, and delight.
