Stress is our body’s natural response to pressure from demanding situations or life events, whether it’s work deadlines, relationship challenges, or unexpected changes. While a little stress can motivate us to perform better, prolonged or chronic stress can take a serious toll on mental and physical health, leading to feelings of overwhelm, exhaustion, or even more severe issues like anxiety and depression.
For men, stress often shows up differently than it does for women, influenced by behavioural, emotional, and biological factors. Many blokes experience it through anger, irritability, or aggressiveness rather than openly expressing vulnerability. Common symptoms include noticeable changes in mood, energy, or appetite; difficulty sleeping or restlessness; trouble concentrating; and even physical signs like headaches or muscle tension. Under stress, men might also face memory issues, increased agitation, or turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms like denial, emotional blunting, or displacing conflict onto others. Shockingly, nearly 8 out of every 10 men have dealt with significant stress, anxiety, or depression, and societal expectations can make it harder to seek help.
